Resumé/C.V.

Narcís Bonet Armengol

He was born in Barcelona, on January 22, 1933. His first music studies were under the supervision of Joan Massià (piano with Maria Carbonell), Joan Llongueres and Eduard Toldrà, who signed his presentation to the public in the Palau de la Música Catalana at the age of 13 as a composer and pianist. Later, he worked with Joaquim Zamacois, Emili Pujol and Lluís Maria Millet. In 1949, he became a disciple of Nadia Boulanger in Paris, and later, of Igor Markevitch.

His extensive musical career has been defined in multiple facets:

Composition (first prize of the National Conservatory of Paris), orchestra conductor, animation, divulgence and musical management and most especially, teaching. We also cannot forget his role in the service of the Catalan culture through the Agrupació Dramàtica of Barcelona, as a secretary of the Òmnium Cultural of Paris, producer of the Paris broadcasts, home of the Catalan culture (Paris, hotbed of the Catalan culture) of the French radio broadcasting and, lastly, as president of the Casal de Catalunya in Paris.

Narcís Bonet has been awarded different prizes of composition (Copley Foundation of Chicago, March Foundations, Prince Rainier III of Monaco) and has received a large number of orders (America-Spain Festival, RTVE, Dotació d’Art Castellblanch, Ensemble Moderne of Paris, Seville and Granada Festivals, Chopin Festival of Paris, etc.).

The positions he has held include, but are not limited to: the president of the Joventuts Musicals de Barcelona (Musical Youth Groups of Barcelona, member of the Bureau and president of the Federació Internacional de Joventuts Musicals (International Federation of Musical Youth Groups, representative of the International Music Counsel of the UNESCO, producer of the musical programs of the French Radio broadcasts in the Spanish language, technical secretary of the Orquesta y Coros (Orchestra and Choirs) of RTVE, musical counselor of the Dotación de Arte of Castellblanch, jury member of piano and composition international contests.

Starting in 1971, he developed a great pedagogic activity in different schools: the Municipal Conservatory of Paris, the National Music School of Créteil, the Normal Music School of Paris (where he became adjunct director) and the American Conservatory of Fontainebleau (where he took the place of Nadia Boulanger in Direction).

He is author of a Tractat de Solfeig (Solmization Treatise) and has collaborated with Igor Markevitch in the encyclopedic edition of the nine Symphonies by Beethoven (Van de Velde Editions).

He is currently a member of the Consell Musical (Musical Council) of the Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation, Commandeur dans l’Ordre du Mérite Culturel and Commandeur de l’Ordre de Saint-Charles of Monaco, member of the Nadia and Lili Boulanger International Council Foundation, director of the Normal Music School Association of Paris (where he also practices his pedagogic activities) and also director of the Schola Cantorum of Paris. Member of the Academia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi, the Catalan Government has recently awarded him the Creu de Sant Jordi.
