Vila encantada (Enchanted Town) was born into a choir exchange, in an atmosphere of merriment and euphoria, and with the aim of being a piece made-to-measure for us, done for and by us. Maria, a courageous contralto, fancied writing the text and from this moment onward, musical discourse has been linked to it completely, trying to lead the music through all atmospheres and situations suggested by the story. We thought it to be a good idea to compose a piece of some importance, but of an intermediate difficulty, which would still be attainable for such a young choir as ours.

It was in Alghero, where the plot of the cantata took shape, with the vision of the Mediterranean and the memories of the picturesque spots of the towns bathed by this common sea. The main character –that has no gender mark, although our language doesn’t make things easy in this sense– leaves his home village in search of his/her identity.
