The “Tres peces per a piano” are closely linked to music tradition. The first work is a remake of an etude that was originally written for guitar in 1980. The ostinato refers both to the repetition of the characteristic baroque sarabanda rhythm and to the rules that govern the work’s harmonic concatenations.
The second work, written in 2009, which contrasts with the first one, was written in one go and seeks to reflect certain characteristics of one particular person, with a writing that, frequently alike in Robert Schumann, uses themes based on numeric symbols and the names of musical notes.
The third work, which followed the second after only a few weeks, is a tribute to a long series of works based on other works. In this case, it uses a theme of a song by Leonard Bernstein. Another ostinato, the simple repetition of the central Do of the piano, establishes a link to the first work, closing the short cycle of “Tres peces per a piano” in a serene atmosphere.
