He was born in Barcelona in 1952, and studied theory of music, harmony and various wind instruments at the Municipal School of Music there, qualifying as an oboist. He then took advanced classes in harmony, counterpoint and orchestration with Manuel Oltra, and attended orchestral conducting classes with Antoni Ros Marbà.
He has undertaken important research work in perfecting Catalan instruments and extending their possibilities. After studying with Narcís Paulís, he attracted attention to the flabiol (small end-blown flute) as a concert instrument, revealing previously unsuspected qualities in it. In 1977 he founded the flabiol and tabor class in the Municipal Music School of Barcelona, and he has been teaching that instrument since 1989 in the Liceu Music School there.
He has been a member of the Banda Municipal de Barcelona since 1977, playing the oboe and flabiol. He has also been a member of various cobla bands as the principal tible (descant shawm) or flabiol, and has also been the conductor of the Cobla Sant Jordi ever since it was founded in 1983. He has undertaken wide-ranging dissemination work with that band for the great concert repertoire of music for cobla band, recovering unpublished or forgotten works, and putting on numerous first performances. He has also been invited to conduct other leading coblas.
He has composed some chamber works, mostly aimed at wind instruments, as well as a dozen sardanas (traditional Catalan dance).
