Contents

This book is an introduction to studying the clarinet from scratch. Over the first year, the full 'chalumeau' range is studied, and work is commenced on sound production, phrasing, breath control, dynamics, position etc. The reading difficulties are progressively graded. The aim is to enable the student to use the instrument as a means of expression in highly varied contexts, while also taking his or her own interpretative decisions.
In it you will find: traditional songs from around and about (with words), improvisations, imitation exercises, memory, technique, duos, trios, quartets, chamber music, sight reading, canons, ostinatos and other easily grasped forms, musical guessing games, and games of concentration.
