Johann Christian Schickhardt is a composer with a prolific oeuvre for recorder. Albeit one could say that Schickhardt’s oeuvre isn’t of a great importance within musical patrimony in general, one has to bow to the evidence that, from the perspective of our modest instrument, his production turns out to be an imposing oeuvre. In my poor opinion, his qualitative level is every bit as high as the one of the average of his contemporaries, amongst which he often excels in imagination and instrumental fantasy.
Over and above these considerations, which should already concede him a privileged place on every flutist’s music stand, he gives evidence of a pedagogical scheme in several of his publications, which undoubtedly makes him even more interesting.
