This third volume in the collection provides flexible material for youth orchestras to facilitate furthering orchestral practice at the intermediate level. It is intended to be playable by a small symphonic group, with some parts being a little more difficult to allow more advanced students to be added if that is felt to be advisable. It thus falls to the conductor to given this orchestral piece its final form, he or she applying his or her creativity and knowledge of the music group concerned to tailor the work to suit the particular orchestra that will be playing it as closely as possible.
Apart from this flexibility in finalising the make-up of the orchestra, this Concertino also has a few moments in which the instrument that is to play the solo melody can be chosen: the recommended instrument is shown written out in normal-size notes, while a second option is given in smaller notation. The piano part can be played by an intermediate-level student.
