Obres per a dos contrabaixos

The following collection wants to broaden the catalogue of works for two double basses, in order to help players in their recitals.
The materials are intended for two double basses, one leading the melody and the other, the accompaniment, always with an active, agile attitude, to give a clear enough version of each piece.
The works are arranged for a great number of double bass students. Thus they are offered a unique opportunity to make their instrument sing and to explore the expressive capabilities of each player, momentarily abandoning the more typical function of the double bass.

My friend and pupil Jaume Coll asked me if would comment on some music he has orchestrated for double bass.
They come from well known songs: simple, fun, not too long, with no extra complications, easy to play and with a very entertaining instrumentation. All this makes them suitable for a lot of students.
This doesn’t mean they are not interesting. All new music is good, and better if it’s double bass music.
The double bass, unlike the violin, has a more limited repertoire and, therefore, the more new music that appears for it, the better.
