Paràfrasi del Cant dels segadors

In a moment of national exaltation and Catalan patriotism, it seems logical that we, musicians, call for the distinction of our people. This Paraphrase will help pianists widen and make known their repertoire with a piece which, rooted in the 17th century and composed by Francesc Alió, now comes to us in a forceful piano version. Narcís Bonet preserves the piece’s popular roots, offering a homophonic texture and approaching the original motives in the different voices. The piece starts off with an incursion into the lowest register of the piano - the Bon cop de falç motive. Its solemnity grows into a virtuosistic passage of broken chords, where the melody line is drown by the different registers.
From a folk line and with a language reminiscent of Bartòk, but also of Massià, Narcís Bonet puts forth a different view of the Catalan hymn to that which we are used to, with an aesthetic line which might earn the name of The New Old Music.
