(The genesis of musical intelligence in the child)This book is the first systematic investigation into the psychology of music to be produced in Catalan. On the basis of a description and analysis of numerous observations of his own children, the author traces the gradual appearance of pre-musical and musical behaviour patterns over the sensomotor period, down to the emergence of symbolic behaviour (0-2 years of age).
Six evolutionary stages are put forward, from a constructivist and eco-systematic perspective, and these explain the psycho-musical progress of the child, taking self-regulation factors as the strategic dynamic that makes his or her development possible.
Structure
The book features an initial chapter that presents the subject of study, another devoted to the methodological criteria used, and six more covering the sensomotor evolutionary stages that are inherent in the musical genesis of the child. The conclusions, presented as contributions to the genetic epistemology of music, are arranged in seven sections followed by a coda, summed up 12 psycho-musical themes and a transcription. It book comes with an appendix containing the music for the songs that appear in the work, and that will serve, among many other uses, for musical exchanges between children and adults.
