The Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in G Major by Ferran Sor is a rather unknown piece, which is barely mentioned in biographies or studies of the author and according to experts still holds a good deal of doubts about its authorship. The piece was discovered at the library of the Cistercian Monastery of the Holy Cross (Zisterzienserstift Heiligenkreuz) in Austria and was transcribed in 1975 by musicologist Abel Nagytothy-Toht, who was born in Hungary and presently lives in Montreal. The piece was anew performed in Europe thanks to guitarist Giuliano Balestra in a concert that took place in Rome in May 1981, with Montserrat Cervera and the Orquesta de Cámara Santa Cecilia conducted by José Ramón Encinar. The Spanish premiere took place in Madrid, at the Auditorio Nacional de Música, on November 10th 1992, with Montserrat Cervera as a soloist and the Orquestra de Cambra Catalana conducted by Joan Pàmies.
