He was born in Barcelona in 1950, and started his musical education at the age of ten at the Barcelona Music School, where he competed studies in the piano, bassoon, double bass and percussion.
He then studied counterpoint and the fugue with Manuel Oltra; composition and orchestration with Xavier Montsalvatge; and orchestral conducting with Antoni Ros Marbà, earning the highest grades in all cases.
In 1972 he pursued further studies in France with Pierre Sancan, Monique Hass and Bruno Maderna.
He has written some twenty sardanas (traditional Catalan dances) and has won prizes in composition in various competitions: the Authors' Society (SGAE), Francesc Basil, Ceret-Banyoles, Lloret' His concert sardanas are often played by the leading ensembles.
He has composed a number of chamber music and symphonic works for one cobla (traditional Catalan band), two coblas, concertos and variations.
In the audiovisual sphere, his career goes back a long way. He has produced music for the cinema, television and theatre, and has incorporated the latest electronic and computer technologies into his productions. He has also written works for bands. In 1986, he was selected by competitive examination for the post of principal bassoon in the Banda Municipal de Barcelona, an ensemble he has often conducted.
