Born in Barcelona in 1947, Josep Maria Colom i Rincón started his music studies with his aunt, Rosa Colom, as well as at the Barcelona Music Conservatory and, later, with Joan Guinjoan. He ent on to continue his musical education at the Parisian music school, the École Normale de Musique founded by Alfred Cortot.
He won the ‘Premio Jaén’ International Piano Competition in 1977 and the Paloma O'Shea International Piano Competition in Santander in 1978. Ever since his debut playing at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 1979, he has developed an important international career performing concerts and recitals with a wide variety of orchestras and chamber music groups around the world.
He has made many recordings including works by Brahms, Franck, Blasco de Nebra, Mompou, Falla, and Prokófiev among others.
In recent years he has devoted his time exclusively to music teaching, giving masterclasses at the Alcalá d’Henares University music department, the Musikeon Higher School of Music in Valencia and the Liceu Music Conservatory in Barcelona.
