Santi Figueras Vigara
He was born in Terrassa in 1964, and studied guitar and organ. He graduated, being awarded a distinction and the special guitar prize, from the Municipal School of Music of Barcelona. He then continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Konrad Ragossnig. He has also studied with Hopkinson Smith, David Russell and Manuel Barrueco.
He has given numerous concerts and recitals all over Europe and the United States, prominent occasions including his recital at the United Nations Building in Vienna, the Geneva Summer Festival, the University of Indiana in Bloomington (USA), the March Foundation in Madrid, Barcelona's Palau de la Música Catalana and Valencia's Palau de la Música Valencia.
Aside from his appearances as soloist, he also works regularly with orchestras and chamber groups, such as Diabolus in Musica (under Joan Guinjoan) and Barcelona's Quartet Ferran Sor. He has recorded two compact discs and a number of performances for various radio stations and television channels.
He is head of the Guitar Department at the Terrassa School of Music, and has published works on topics in education and history. In recent years he has been concentrating on issues relating to musical creativity, and he gives courses and seminars on improvisation and creative interpretation in various contexts.
