This outstanding work is based on two musical compositions attributed to Carles Isern (1843-1862), son of Jaume Isern and friend of Guanyabens. Composed after 1862, it is structured in five sections: the overture; the first composition by Carles Isern in F minor and 6/8 time signature, performed on the English horn and developed by the strings; a polysectional part, again in quaternary time signature, that fluctuates between two compositions in minor tonality; followed by the second composition by Isern, in a lighter E flat and with an extension of 31 measures, with bel canto resonances, which is repeated; a variation in C minor of the first composition by Isern, and the final coda in a vivace tempo.
The Fantasia Viu i viurà en nostre record was not performed during Guanyabens’ lifetime. The Orfeó Mataroní, with an orchestral section conducted by Jordi Valls, revived the work in 1983 to mark the centenary of the death of Manuel Blanch.
