Somnis (Dreams), composed in the summer of 1993, is a piece I wrote during my years of study in the United States of America (1992-1996). There are two versions of this piece: one for symphonic orchestra and one for chamber orchestra —a version, this latter, that was premiered on February 12th 1996 by The Galatea Ensemble at the New York Christ & Saint Stephen’s Church. As refers its structure, the piece, written in one single multisectional movement, is a mixture of a sonata and a theme with variations. The atmosphere of Somnis is calm, religious and ethereal, and comprehends a fleeting memory of a possible medieval dance.
