This piece is based on the Chinese folk song Hung-Sai.The melody uses the pentatonic scale, like much traditional music from China and from the oriental world in general.
The first part of the work is intended to be played in a very lyrical, free way, so much so that the first bar can be stretched out to take up to 30 seconds, improvising percussion effects with the cymbals, the triangle, the gong or any other instrument that can preserve the oriental flavour. The second part, in contrast with the first, is to be performed in a highly rhythmical, pointed manner.
