Guinjoan’s definitive catalogue began in 1965 with Tres peces per a piano. In 1966, the cantata for mixed choir and a chamber ensemble Punts Cardinals came to fruition a year before debuting at the International Music Festival in Barcelona with the Cor Madrigal [Madrigal Choir] directed by Manuel Cabero, together with the collaboration of the “Diabolus in Musicae” ensemble directed by Guinjoan himself.
The work is written based on a text by the composer himself. Although it can be considered to be one of the first in his catalogue, the piece clearly demonstrates that the composer’s inquisitive nature is already well-established, especially because of its varied timbres and the phonetic resources of the choir.
