The book you have before you aims to offer a collection of traditional songs arranged in different musical styles in order to immediately enjoy creating music and improvising, with help from recorded accompaniment tracks. It is intended for all those who are starting to study an instrument and, due to the simplicity of the songs, it can also be used for Orff ensembles, recorder groups or even for singing at school. Based on the idea of creating material that is easily assimilated by students, the audio accompaniments of the songs, at different tempos, will provide them with a progressive and enjoyable
learning experience.
Musical repertoire is one of the main motives students have for wanting to learn to play an instrument. A careful selection of traditional songs, paired with styles and rhythms of contemporary music, will make them fall in love with it from the very beginning, and will provide the necessary impetus to encourage them to go a long way. The teaching-based proposals for each song stem from our teaching experience. Everyone can adapt them to their own context, projects and work objectives, adding their own resources, or even inventing new ones that arise from group dynamics. Your experience, imagination and creativity will be essential to energise the classroom through play. In essence, you have a rich and versatile piece of material at your disposal, enabling several lines of work: playing the songs over the audio tracks, over the piano accompaniment, improvising solos, creating music in small combos, singing, dancing, and so on. Essentially, it is about feeling the whole experience of making music so that it becomes an exciting experience.
