Contents

The collection Calaix de Solfa offers, in its twelfth volume, a series of melodies written during the second half of the 18th century (or perhaps before). They are a transcription of some old violin books that had been used by a performer at that time. The manuscripts include European dances that had a strong tradition in Catalonia: counter dances, minuets, rigaudoons' The first part of the book contains the musical comments on the melodies and on the compilation in general, a section about the violin in Catalonia during the 18th century, as well as a description of the materials contained in the publication and of their origin.
