This work was commissioned by the celebrated violinist Agustín León-Ara for inclusion in his repertoire along with the Spanish songs of Manuel de Falla and the Valencian songs of Joaquin Rodrigo.
The seven songs are harmonised in an 'unconventional' tonal language, and the instrumental treatment poses virtuoso-level challenges for both performers.
