This is an overview of the characteristic sounds and styles of contemporary music. Young pianists can become acquainted with these sounds by playing the short pieces included in this volume. This way they can get a sampling of a few representative composers whose works have become part and parcel of today's standard musical repertory, but whose works are often too complex to be successfully performed many otherwise competent pianists.
The work is written as a 7 movement suite, although each piece can easily be performed individually.
