Garreta is one of the best Catalan composers in the entire history of Catalan music. This work by Garreta won the Catalan-music prize (Festa de la Música Catalana) in 1920, and was given its first performance in 1921 in the Eldorado Theatre by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra conducted by Joan Lamote de Grignon.
The score on which this edition is based is the only one existing. It belongs to the library of the Barcelona society Orfeó Català. That is the score that has always been used to play this work, and it is a copy that was made from the original, most probably by the composer's brother. The notation is very small, and full of markings, corrections and cuts added over the years.
The aim in working on this edition was to produce a clear, readable score, with no mistakes, remaining as faithful as possible to the original.
