This piece, which was written in the beginning of 1975, was premiered by our distinguished and beloved Rosa Sabater in that year within the frame of the Semana de Música Religiosa [Religious Music Week], which was held in Cuenca. The piece, which is based on a theme by Pare Ireneu Segarra, is full of meditation and evokes both dramatic and placid and calm atmospheres. It is based on D minor with occasional alternative atonal elements. Twelve variations, two references to Bach and Brahms (variations viii and x), and the invocation of The Seven Last Words of Christ make a total duration of seven minutes of music. This collection of pieces makes up a symbolism of ciphers, which I drew up between conscious and unconscious. A few years later, the great performer, who premiered Himnari died in a tragic plane crash while travelling form Germany to Madrid. Therefore, the mystical and spiritual character of this piece will always be something very special and unique.
