Contents

This Nonet can also be played as an Octet without the contra-bass flute. It requires a strong ensemble with solid players for all the parts. It is accessible and appealing to all audiences. 
The piece is in four movements: a lyric Fantasy followed by a rhytmically driving Moto Perpetuo which in turn seques directly into the Cadenzas movement (this movement gives a solo appearance to each of the different instruments: piccolo, flute, alto flute and bass flute). The Cadenzas movement then connects without pause to the last movement, Finale, which is based on an ostinato and in which themes from all the anterior movements are brought back.
