This work is written using the structure of the lied, A-B-A. This form is maintained in the first and third movements, both in Tot jugant ('A-playing') and in Tarantel·la (Tarantella). Both begin with a short piano introduction that prepares the way for the flute's entrance. In the last movement, the piano has a little coda, during which the flute waits and then comes in to play the last two bars with the piano.
Two of the movements are binary in structure, and have no piano introduction or coda.
The style of this composition involves three quite distinct themes: the evocative style of the second movement contrasts with the dynamism of the first and the dance rhythm of the third.
