Dialogues
For tenora (tenor shawm) and symphonic band.
This work is the last of the works from the year 2000 that were written for the cycle of compositions that the composer devoted to the tenora on the occasion of the instrument´s 150th anniversary. It was originally written for tenora and symphonic band, and account was taken in its composition of the circumstances under which it was to receive its first performance (Barcelona´s Plaça del Rei in the month of July). The musical language, independent and easy to grasp (as is usual in this composer´s creative approach) is relatively straightforward as regards execution on the instrument. Despite this simplicity, it does require great musical sensitivity from the performer to give the piece the musical atmosphere intended by the composer. In terms of form, its structure is 'scherzo-lento-scherzo da capo', the first section being playing in character, the second having something archaic about it, and the third resembling the first, it preceding a cadenza that brings the work to a close.
