Amical (Friendly)
Amical is the sardana with the longest musical development, featuring a total of 156 measures. It is considered a work of expressive virtuosity for the tenora, but that is actually what it is the cobla as a whole. It has transparencies of sound that are rarely achieved in the field of the sardana and, obviously, they surpass the world of the dance to make this a concert piece that, while presenting the form of a sardana, nevertheless takes certain licences such as the omission of the final 'blow'.
Amical has become the most widely and, consequently, best known sardana of Ricard Lamote de Grignon.
Camí de la llum (Path of Light)
With respect to this sardana, in the archive of the old Cobla Municipal Ciutat de Barcelona I found an anonymous typewritten note dated in 1961 that I transcribe as follows: 'Over the course of some thirty years [Ricard Lamote de Grignon] has composed only seven sardanes, each of which arose from an emotional state. That is to say, this musician chose the cobla as a mode of expression only when this traditional instrument, with its characteristic bittersweet quality, was the only one that could translate into sound the vibration of his spirit. Camí de la llum is a soft intimate sardana, conceived in a moment of hopefulness'.
