The present piece, “Apunts” [“Notes”], completed in September 2008, was originally written for fiscorn [kind of a trumpet], and piano.
In the prologue of the present edition, the fiscorn teacher of the ESMUC [Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya], Pep Moliner, to whom the piece is dedicated, says: “[The piece] always creates a conversation with the piano”. In effect, I wanted it to be like an interactive dialogue between the two instruments.
With this idea in mind, I transcribed the solo part for violoncello as well as for basset horn, adjusting it to these instruments’ writing, a task for which I had the invaluable collaboration of the excellent musicians and friends Lito Iglesias and Albert Gumí.
I hope the piece to be attractive and interesting to violoncello and basset horn players and that they will be able to enjoy it.
